Merlin Raye Allen

 

Merlin was born October 22, 1946 in Madison, WI to parents, Skip & Eleanor Allen. He was the 2nd of 3 children; Marilyn, Merlin, and Sheila.

Merlin lived in Omro and attended Omro High School with the Class of 1965 through his Sophomore year. Among his many high school accomplishments, Merlin was the vice-president of the Sophomore class. In his junior year he moved with his family to Bayfield WI.

Merlin was a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, Company A 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion 3rd Marine Division. Merlin was killed June 30, 1967 in Thua Thien, South Vietnam while on a reconnaissance mission aboard a CH46A helicopter. The CH46A was downed and crashed as a result of small arms fire. Merlin's body was never recovered and is currently still listed as one of Wisconsin's MIA's.

Merlin's name is on Panel 22E – Line 86 of the Viet Nam Wall in Washington DC.
