Wain Perry Craig

Wain was born February 20, 1949 to parents, Russell & Hazel (Norton) Craig. Russell is a brother to Richard Craig of Omro.

He was 4th of 5 children; Penny, Chris, Jason, Wain and Robin.

Wain lived in Waukau and attended Waukau School. Lucile Craig, his grandmother, purchased their house in 1957, at which time they moved to Texas City, TX.

Wain was SP4-E4 U.S. Army

He was in the service for 1 year. His tour began on June 30, 1969, and he was killed January 27, 1970 in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam.

His injury was classified as ground casualty, accidental self-destruction. His body was recovered. Wain's unit had received a shipment of ammo – he and 2 others were unloading and stacking hand grenades. Wain noticed a loose pin, and before he could throw it, it exploded.

When his mother, Hazel was informed of his death, she was told that "her son" was killed in Viet Nam. She said "which one?" Wain and Chris were both there at the same time.

Wain's name is on Panel 14W – Line 71 of the Viet Nam Wall in Washington DC.
