Obituary

Russell graduated from Omro High School in 1959. Immediately following his graduation, he started his military career in the United States Army where he served for 20 years. During his extensive military career, he was stationed in Germany as well as several state-side bases. His greatest service came when he was called into combat during the Vietnam War. He served three tours, was wounded in battle, received two Purple Heart Medals, and was awarded five Bronze Star Medals for his valor as well as receiving the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He retired from service in 1979 where he was serving in the Army's 1st Calvary Division stationed in Fort Hood, TX. For preservation and remembrance of all soldiers who served in foreign wars, Russell donated his military dress uniform to the Omro Historical Society.
